There’s nothing quite like a farmhouse sink! Let’s talk about farmhouse sinks and what the appeal is, then I’ll show you my favorites. Stick around!

What makes a farmhouse sink? For starters, they are large and tend to make a bold statement. Farmhouse sinks originated in the 1920s, when cleanliness in home kitchens became more of a thing. They were large, typically made of cast iron, and hung from the wall complete with an integrated backsplash and drainboard. There were legs to support the sink from underneath, so no cabinet was needed to support it. In the late 1990s a more modern version of the farmhouse sink began to make an appearance.

Farmhouse sinks are now commonly made of fireclay, stainless steel, composite, or even copper. They are still large and able to hide a host of dirty dishes inside. Now that you know a little more about farmhouse sinks, I’ll show you my favorites. {You’ll find them all at Amazon!}.

Here’s a classic white sink made of fireclay that is high pressure casted. This construction gives it a 100% non-porous surface that is said to resist staining much better than a composite or a stone. It is also extremely resistant to chipping and cracking. What I love about this particular farmhouse sink is the included protective grid in the bottom. When you want it, it’s there, and when you don’t, it’s removable.

I also love this classic quartz style from Elkay. It is a single, large bowl in a beautiful Greystone color. Molded from fine quartz, it’s impact, heat and stain resistant. And I think it makes an unexpected statement!

Personally, I prefer a double bowl sink, and this stainless apron farmhouse sink provides that option. I also love that this one provides a strainer tray. That’s a handy thing to have!

For a more decorative apron front, my final favorite farmhouse sink style is this Vigo composite sink that comes available with a beautiful slotted front. The composite is treated to be resistant to stains, fire, and chemicals.
