Is your dishwasher failing at getting your dishes perfectly clean? Well, you don’t have to put up with that nonsense. I’m not saying you necessarily need to go out and spend money on a new dishwasher, but I am saying there may be a way to fix it. {And I speak from personal experience!} Stick around for some tips to help fix your failing dishwasher.

Spoons and plates in utensil drainer

  • Take the time to re-read your dishwasher owner’s manual. You could be using the wrong detergent or loading it in a way that impedes it’s ability to clean efficiently.
  • You should be cleaning your dishwasher regularly so that it can clean your dishes. I like this dishwasher cleaner from Amazon. It’s easy to use and effective at removing hard water and mineral deposits.
  • Make sure your soap dispenser is clean and not hampered by build-up or deposits that stop it from opening and releasing detergent. Use a Brillo pad to remove any deposits you see.
  • Remove the dishwasher’s spray arms and clean them to remove hard water and mineral deposits. Build up of these deposits prevents water from spraying freely, and this keeps your dishes from getting clean. One way to clean the spray arms is to ream them with heavy duty wire. Another way is to soak them in a vinegar bath.
  • Check to see if your dishwasher’s inlet valve is letting the right amount of water into the dishwasher. Too little results in dirty dishes. To check it, allow the dishwasher to fill. Open the dishwasher and look at the water level. It should be just below the valve’s float. If there is either too much water or not enough, you should call a professional to come and make the repair.
