What is Cowboy Art?

Cowboys are a true symbol of the history of the American West. The American cowboy evolved during the latter part of the 19th century from Mexican cowboys, who were known for herding cattle from the back of a horse. These Mexican cowboys did some of their herding in United States territory, and their traditions soon merged with Americans into what we know as the American Cowboy. Cowboy art celebrates these hardworking men for their roles as cattle herders and ranchers, rodeo riders, and Wild West heroes.

It doesn’t take much to give your home a little western flair with cowboy art. But first you do have to find the right pieces. And the right pieces are simply those that speak to you. A good place to start is with a color scheme. What are the predominant colors you use in your home? Look for the art that uses those colors for an easy tie-in to the rest of your home decor.
