Is there really anything worse than a stinky fridge? Nothing kills an appetite quite like when you open your refrigerator door and you are overwhelmed with the smell of broccoli or leftover fish. If the broccoli smell wasn’t quite bad enough, try wrapping your head around the fact that you now have to clean it up! Here are 10 incredible fridge hacks that make it so you will never have to clean up a yucky fridge again!
A Bowl Full of Lemons recommends keeping sticky spills and other liquids off your shelves with some shelf liners. Simply replace when dirty and save yourself an afternoon by the sink.
If the fridge liners aren’t something you’re interested in, Four Generations One Roof swears by using containers to store everything. When everything has a place, it is easy to see what you need more of!
Martha swears that everyone needs a lazy susan in their fridge, and it makes sense! Use a lazy susan to store your condiments, and put the more bulky items in the door!
Set aside an area of your refrigerator dedicated specifically to kid snacks. This will keep your kids from tearing apart your refrigerator looking for a cheese stick! Stockpiling Mom’s recommends labeling the area so your kids always know where to reach!
Keep your food organized to prevent contamination and early expiration. Keep milk in the back of the bottom shelf, raw meat should be on the lowest shelf. Fruits and veggies should be kept in the drawer labeled for fruits and veggies. Find more food storage tips at Real Simple.
If possible, use a dry erase marker on the door of your refrigerator. Keep a tally of the amount of food you have, and it’ll be easy to update and change your grocery lists accordingly. You could also hang a little chalkboard to do something similar!
Save room by knowing what has to be chilled and what doesn’t. Don’t worry about storing tomatoes, potatoes, and onions. Save the space for something more valuable!
Label a box “Eat Me First!” to store items to eat before they go bad. This way, you can save money and food!
If you can’t seem to keep your fridge smelling fresh, run to the nearest pet store and purchase a container of activated carbon. This works better than baking soda to neutralize odors.
Label everything. Once you have come up with a great organization method, it would be a bummer to forget what it was! Label everything in your fridge so you remember where you put the apples (keep that meat on the bottom shelf though!)
Really cool ideas! I used baking soda for cleaning and deodorizing at home for few months and I am really happy with the results. I am very busy with my work and don’t have much time to spend on cleaning at home so such hacks are really important for me! Thanks for sharing!
